WOW!! Great to hear from you Jon!! Thanks for your advice, and yes, you're right, lots of space for improvement so I'll work on that. Actually, lately I'm spending my harp time on learning how to read music and "shaping" my notes, playing them in various ways.. fading in and out, starting and/or finishing with a bend, hand /throat vibrato etc (have to admit that I'm not doing the "ka ka ka" thing, so that's on the "Do List" with the rest of your advice, thanks)
btw also thanks for your new video on youtube, great as always. I kinda like how your voice has gotten a little "rougher" over the years, it matches the songs you play very well, it gives it tons of emotion. As for jam camp, it is still on the top of my list and I sure hope I can make it someday to the States and share a mic with you.
Dutch--you have really improved. Nice octave work at the beginning. Great vibratto now. Tone much clearer and fatter. I think there is still much room for improvement. It is like you are feeling for notes instead of playing definite patterns. You need to get more patterns into your muscle memory, and repeat them in ways that are interesting.
Also, you are not articulating your notes. Just playing them. YOu need to shape your notes with with a "ka" click and create syllables and phrases. Use silence. Use the question and answer format. And play with rythm and bite bu doing it on the same notes, like on the 3d*, going ka ka ka, insxtwad of wandering around so much.
You're getting there! Hope to see you at our Hawaii jam camp. Jon
OK Dutch, I feel like a heel for saying I didn't care for the song. So let me put in perspective, Charley Patton and Robert Johnson each have done songs that I don't care for. So I lump you in with them in that regard. Charley, Robert and Dutch.
Gotta be honest with ya Dutch. I thought baby blues was too long. You played well, but the song was close to 5 minutes long. Just checked out not there. Off the chain as they say. Fell right into the groove. You sound like you been playing Jazz a long time. sounded great!
Put a song there titled "Baby Blues" please take a listen to it. It's also the 1st time I made good use of Jon's 9 blow down riff . (if I remember the name of the riff correct)
