Chromatics

Hello, JohnnyBob.
You had asked your question on July 20th, 2009. Please accept my apology for this very late reply.

The standard solo system note placement slide chromatic harmonica of 8-, 10-, 12-, 14- or 16 holes can be played in all keys that are based on the 12 half steps per octave(European chromatic) scale.

The solo system slide chromatics include Hohner Chromonicas, Super Chromonicas, 64 Chromonicas, Super 64, Super 64X, CX-12; all Suzuki slide harmonicas; most Hering slide harmonicas; Huang slide chromatics; all Tombo slide chromatics; The Seydel solo system Chromatic Deluxe and Chromatic Standard.

A few Hohner slide chromatics (Slide Harp, Koch Chromatic) have richter system note placenment, like the 10-hole Richter diatonics. A few Hering slide chromatics also use the richter system note placement. The Seydel company will custom-make any note placement system you desire, with range limits.

The richter system slide chromatics are usually 10-hole harmonicas, and are truly chromatic only in the middle octave (holes 4-7). The other holes, like the 10-hole richter diatonics, have notes of the scale missing (holes 2-3 and 10).

Best Regards

Other scales, such as far-eastern scales (Micronesian, Malaysian, etc.,) don't use the European chromatic scale as their base.
