I worked up Rob Paparozzi's version of "She Caught the Katy" last year (you may recall). Not toooo hard but it has great solo's and fills, and it's amazing that a Eb harp can sound so good on the right song (as in Rob's version). Learned a lot from that exercixe. Now I need to decide on the next one. Thinking about something off of Mark Hummel's Heart of Chicago, but getting that TB to match Mark's is pretty tough. I think Rob's judicious use of TBing on Katy helped as it was mainly single note, although getting the inflection, nuance, and dynamic just right is sure a challenge...I just tried to get some sort of distant approximation.
Right now, I am trying to master Billy Boy Arnold's "Shake Your Hips." And mastering means play and sing. It's a fast boogie in A, and Billy Boy is one firrce blues singer/harper. Great, and I mean grrrrreat harp and guitar interplay. Jason Ricci often uses this song as a taking off his amazing harp solos.
