RE: midi files

Jude - do you mean from the computer to the keyboard instead of the other way around? Both pgms already mention will play MIDI files through the keyboard, but you need a MIDI interface, or at least a MIDI cable to connect to the joystick port (if they still put those on computers these days). To record midi notes from the keyboard into the computer, a better pgm is Powertracks from BIAB (also plays midi files) from the same PG music that akes BIAB. But I guess BIAB does that too, and allows generation of backing tracks made easy. Now you said "get saved midi files to the computer". That's a little trickier than just playing the keyboard and recording the MIDI data (notes) on the computer. Actually, audio recording is probably easiest for that. The problem is you need to "play" the MIDI file on the keyboard, and record the MIDI out data on the computer. Sometimes that can be tough with multitrack Midi data, keeping the channels and tracks straight, plus you don't want to quantize the MIDI data. Well, once you get a MIDI interface and the programs, you can try it and see how it works, Playing MIDI files from the computer through the keyboard is no problem. Of course you can just play the MIDI files through the computer sound card too. But recording the keyboard MIDI data on the computer is a little more complicated. I hope I've amswered a few questions but probably raised some other ones too.

Hi Jude, Not sure what software you have, but the 2 that i can recommend is Audacity and Band in a Box, they are both music sound editing software. The Audacity is free download and the BIAB is purchased ,depending on what you want. If you dont have it , seach Band in a Box ,lots of info and i think, they they have a demo version, limited but will give you an idae about it.

I have a Casio WK-3000 piano keyboard that can do about anything, and I have a nice computer. I can't figure out how to get saved midi files from the keyboard to the computer through the midi cable. Don't know what kind of software or anything. My keyboard manual isn't much help. I want my friend to record music for me to play with.
