I have a hohner auto valve harp which has 10 holes with each hole split in half so that you are actually playing the same note an octave apart out of the same hole. It gives you a real cool sound and as it says on the box-"organ tone". I like it for playing straight harp melodies of traditional songs, gospel hymns, campfire music, etc. It is not a good choice for blues or any other crossharp type playing becuase you can't bend notes on it.
Can someone tell me a bit about octave harmonicas. It's my understanding that you play melodies on these much like a standard diatonic, except you're blowing (or drawing) through 2 holes instead of 1 (or 4 holes instead of 2, etc.). However, I have noticed these are available in 32 and 40 hole models (maybe more). I would assume that these are equivalent to standard 16 and 20 hole models. If this is the case, how does the player adapt standard 10-hole tabs for use with these? In general, does anyone have opions of these? What about tremolos? Models or brands? Any advice would be appreciated.
