Sounds like you have developed a great vibrato, I noticed it in the opening line. Work that in whenever you can/whenever it fits. Not easy to do, sounds great.
If you win or if you don't, I don't know. Your development as a harp player has advanced because of the contest. Said in the credits that it was an adaptation of Big Walter...you did him justice.
Yes, like that! Wasn't prepared for this one though... That was last year's final entry, and I didn' t have any working edit/video software, so I recorded print outs with my camera and added "live" " reports"....
The first time I heard 'Cherry pink and apple blossom white', by the Fabulous Thunderbirds, is when I started re-thinking how I felt about 1st position. Fantastic song. Key of A, first position. WOW!!!!
That would be great. That will give me time to work on "wonderful world" As recently as a year or so ago I kind of looked down on first position stuff. Not proud to admit that, but I did.
I guess I thought of it as being "simple". Came to find out that there a lot of great straight harp songs that are anything but simple. Then there is this, there are times when clear single notes of a first position tune seem refreshing and pure somehow.
I think "wonderful World" is a perfect example of that. Once I learn it (from your video) there will be an ideal time and place for me to play it. Thanks for posting the video. Laughs, great harp and instruction.
Dutch, Great stuff! Loved the Gussow bit. Been thinking about learning "Wonderful World" for some time, No reason not to now. And that one you did in the tropics, "Don't get around much..." don't have the tab for that laying around do you?
I'll get it' The camera has some settings I was goofing around with. HD, 8mm and another one I dont remember. That may be why one of the 4 worked. I'll find the one that works and quit goofing around with it.
give us the link to your vid. the delay with your sound might be just on your (slow?) computer. If I use my old Powerbook, I have the same problem, but when I watch the same vid with my new iMac, everything is ok! Also, don't try to upload too long (10min) vids, short (test) vids are the way to go (especially if your low on memory and cpu power)
OH! Sooorry! your uploading to your computer! (didn't see that, it's still early here) you've got to find that 13 year old kid......
Having problems getting my camera to upload to my computer. Did some test runs and only able to get one of four videos to upload, and that one had the sound about 3 seconds behind the picture. I think I need a thirteen year old kid to help me with this.
Dutch, I followed a link to a video you posted. I think it was a Bushman post you had done. I started out listening like a harp player would to another harp player. Pretty soon I kind of fell into the grove and got pulled in. I said "damn, Dutch is PLAYING them blues!" Go Dutch!
Go for it! Let us know when you've got something up! If you look at some of (perhaps all of) my entries from last year, you'll notice that is pretty low level, but it was fun doing it anyway.......
My first act as a new member was to vote and comment on your "drifting back" post.
Tried 15-20 usernames. Said they were all taken. Started thinking that all the user names in the world had been used up....So I entered "none left". That only worked after I added 987.
That was the easy part. Now to decide what to post.
It was good to know that no one was harmed durring the filming of the video. I saw the championships in 86, many people were killed!
There is a very simple and clear written guide on youtube for uploading movies, you need to register first though, but that's free. You can upload finished movies, and you can record directly to youtube (using a webcam or a digital (video) camera.
It would be more obvious if I was wearing clothes with print on it, for example "GAP"...it would show up reversed on the screen (and I would have noticed aswel) I'm trying to figure out how to reverse it (the movie) . ....
ps thanks for watching the vid everybody, comments (good or bad) are always welcome, actually I hope to see you guys (and girls) jump on the wagon, even if its just for the ride
I saw the video but didn't notice the flip screen thing. If I had, I would have figured that Dutch could play forward and backward. Great tune, well done. I'm still looking for a hat that looks right on me.
Thanks for the info. I'll do what I can to help out. Good luck to you.
After my post, I did check out some of your entries from last year and noticed you holding the harp in the more traditional position. I started wondering if you had a variety of approaches...and now I know...
Check the link at the top of the Bushman (harmonica) forum called "2008 Bushman World Video Contest"
There are 2 ways as far as I understand...
1) Anybody can submit a maximum of 3 entries, and these are judged by the Bushman company.
2) members of the forum can also vote for the best entry, and the vid with the most votes gets an extra prize. you need to be a forum member though. (this member voting happends at the end of the year)
You don't need to be a forum member to submit a vid, but you need to be one if you want to vote.....
One thing that might be helpful, is leaving a comment on youtube and give it a star rating (from Poor to Awesome) I've got about 250 hits since last week, which is not bad....but only 2 comments and 2 "5 star" ratings, so it's hard to figure out what people think of it......
PS , I don't play with the low notes on the right, I forgot to set the "flip screen" in my editing/recording software.....cool you noticed, pretty sharp....
