I hold the harp very similar to what Paul says but if you hold your left hand in front of your face, palm down. Slide the harp between your index finger and your thumb. With your right hand palm face up, cup your fingers from the underside to make that airtight seal. Hows that!!!!!!!! You can move the fingers on your right hand for the wah-wah effect. I hope this helps too.
Hey Josh, I,ll try to explain my way,of holding harp.Try to picture this. Hold left hand in front of your face, thumb pointing straight up, palm towards you. Now, just turn hand over, now thumb is pointing down and your knuckles are toward face. Now slide harp between index and middle finger,Holes towards face, now cup with right hand and find the best comford . Its alot easier to do it than to type it.Again, this is My way.
Since I am new to the harmonica, I am experimenting with the different holding technics. I find that when I cup the harp in my hand I tend to hit my nose with my fingers when I am moving the harp in my mouth. Therefore the other holding technique tends to be easier for me(flattening my hand out and placing the harp between them. That way my fingers are out of the way, and I can move the harp without it being impeded by my nose. Which holding technique is better and how do I get my fingers out of the way of my nose?
