RE: pot wiring

now im confused... basically i cant figure out where to put the 4th wire

let's see if this is right:

mic red (R) to pot R, mic black (B) to pot B; amp R to the other pot R... so where does the amp B go? also to the pot B?

i attached a pic with how i think that diagram has it, and how i have it now (but it doesnt do much)

thanks for the help-
nstru

ps- i couldnt figure out what to use as a housing for the whole volume piece. i was gonna use wood but i just dont have the tools and dont wanna spend the money. i started to look around for some sort of container and got the perfect idea: a harp case! i have a multiharp case so i dont use the plastic ones they come in. so i drilled some holes in an old marine band case, and it will (soon) house my pot

Hi
I tried to send you diagrams yesterday but the I guess the attachments did not fly. Here is a link to the definitive web page on homemade mics for harmonica, where you can get those diagrams for yourself:

http://www.planetharmonica.com/ph2/VE/TMI-micUK.htm

Their wiring diagram shows that the mic element goes parallel to the outside contacts of the pot, while the pos wire goes to the middle contact. I wired mine that way and it works great.

They recommend a 0-10k log pot. I had one and it was better than the 250k I am using now, in that the 250 is very touchy to adjust compared to the 10k.

i'm going to make an in-line volume pot for my Shure 707a - the mic has a "pig tail" female 1/4in jack, the pot will plug into that.

2 questions:
-what rating do i need? is 500k okay?

-where do i solder? the diagram on the box looks like it'll keep the rheostat in parallel (i.e. out of the loop)

i think i just want to put the main wire into one contact, then out the resister side; then just a direct ground-ground, leaving the 3rd contact on the pot open

thanks in advance for any help-
nstru
